This school, conceived by Ward Four community members, current and former education administrators, and business people, opened serving student's kindergarten through first grade with plans to add a grade each year through the twelfth grade. The education program will focus on literacy using the America's Choice Performance Standards. The school will feature lower student-teacher ratios of no more than 20:1 at the K-12 level; 16:2 at the pre-school level; and 18:2 at the pre-kindergarten level. Tri-Community was chartered by the D.C. Public Charter School Board in 2000.
