DC Public Charter Schools
St. Coletta Special Education Public Charter School
Students served are three to twenty-two years of age and must be diagnosed with mental retardation or autism and often have secondary disabilities. At St. Coletta the focus is on the individual and what he/she needs to learn in order to be successful in school and the wider community. Teachers and therapists plan an integrated theme-based approach and develop a series of learning experiences that allow students to explore a subject while working on skills and competencies spelled out in their Individual Education Plan. The basic program includes functional academics, daily living skills, adaptive PE, art education, computer skills and vocational training. St. Coletta provides a full range of related services within an integrated model. Students earn a certificate of IEP completion upon graduation. St. Coletta Special Education Public Charter School was chartered by the DC Board of Education in January 2005.
