The Roots Charter School (Roots) provides an intellectually challenging, African-centered learning environment. Roots provides a program for students to develop exemplary character, academic excellence, and strong social and moral responsibility. Roots strives to meet student academic needs through an exciting heritage, culturally- rich instructional program and varied extra-curricular activities.

The school's accountability process is characterized by a combination of academic success, performance measurement and parental involvement. Roots PCS was chartered by the DC Board of Education Board in 1998.
