Excel Academy Public Charter School
(Coming Fall 2008)

MISSION: Excel Academy Public Charter School will provide pre-school through eighth grade girls a solid academic foundation and enrichment opportunities to prepare them to succeed in high school and college and to develop the skills and confidence they need to make healthy, positive lifestyle choices.

Excel Academy, the District's first all girls' public charter school, will open in August 2008. In our first year we will begin by serving girls ages 3, 4, and 5 and continue to expand until our female scholars are in the eighth grade. Excel Academy students are in a safe, engaging, academic environment for longer school days and an extended school year. The early childhood and kindergarten programs focus on mastery of basic academic skills, child centered exploration, and character development. Our staffing structure allows teachers to truly maximize learning opportunities in the classroom, whether students are engaged in small group lessons or individual center based study. Our students live and work by a set of core character values. This relentless focus on high personal and academic standards allows teachers and students to spend more time on task. Our rigorous academic day is balanced with rich extracurricular activities. Opportunities include a female mentoring program and monthly Saturday Academy for additional enrichment and field trip experiences. At Excel Academy , parents are partners in the education of their students. The school will host ongoing celebratory events and family workshops. Excel is committed to providing a superior educational experience to girls in Washington, DC.
