Education Strengthens Families

The Education Strengthens Families Public Charter School's (ESF) mission is to provide a high-quality education for adults and children that empower families through a culturally sensitive family literacy model. The educational program will be available to any family living in the District that is interested in participating in all components of the program including English language instruction, computer instruction, parenting classes and Parent and Child Together Time. The charter school will include adult education and pre-school education for children ages 3 to 4. Early childhood education services will be provided for the children of adult students, ages 0 to 2, using non-charter resources. Job certification programs will be offered in Certified Development Associate beginning in year two and Medical Assistant beginning in year four to prepare parents for specific entry level careers. ESF opened in September, 2006 building upon 16 years of successful experience in providing family literacy services. ESF will be a model school and the only one of its kind in the District equally meeting the needs of both parents and children. Education Strengthens Families Public Charter School was chartered by the D.C. Public Charter School Board in 2005.
