DC Public Charter Schools

District of Columbia Bilingual Public Charter School

DC Bilingual Public Charter School opened in September 2004 with 120 students from pre-school through kindergarten. Fifty new students joined the DC Bilingual family in fall 2005 as DC Bilingual expanded to include first grade. The School will add an additional grade each year, through 5th grade in 2009, eventually serving over 350 students. DC Bilingual's mission is to expand educational opportunities and choices for children and their families who seek an academically stimulating environment that fosters bilingualism, literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving and a joy of learning. DC Bilingual's curriculum and program design encourage students to be self-motivated, life-long learners, who will express their creativity, develop strong leadership skills, and value the diverse cultures of their city and world. DC Bilingual's philosophy and approach flow out of the two decades of work in bilingual early childhood education of its founding organization, Centronía. DC Bilingual was chartered by the D.C. Public Charter School Board in 2004.
