DC Public Charter Schools

Achievement Preparatory Academy
Public Charter School
(Coming Fall 2008)

Achievement Preparatory Academy ("Achievement Prep") is a college-preparatory public charter middle school in Washington, DC, serving students in grades four through eight. Achievement Prep will open in Fall 2008, with 60 fourth grade and 60 fifth grade students, and will expand one grade per year until its full enrollment through grade eight. Achievement Prep will close the achievement gap in education, level the economic playing field and prepare all students for a future of college success through a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum focused on the core academic areas of reading, writing, math, science and social studies/history. The school model is purposefully and strategically designed to combat the fourth-grade slump by beginning its enrollment at this critical educational stage and by implementing a rigorous academic program focused on literacy intervention, remediation and acceleration. Not only are high academics priority at Achievement Prep, through its Be the Dream character and leadership education program, Achievement Prep focuses on the development and practice of its DREAM (Determination, Respect, Enthusiasm, Accountability and Mastery) values. Achievement Prep's mission is to prepare students in grades four through eight to excel as high-achieving scholars and leaders in high school, college and beyond.
