Washington, D.C. —
The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) unanimously voted Monday to approve two new policies: the Early Childhood Performance Management Framework (PMF) Pilot and 15-year Charter Renewal Guidelines.
The
Early Childhood PMF pilot
looks to bring a common set of standards for 35 charter school early childhood programs with students from pre-kindergarten to second grade. Schools will be measured on progress and achievement in math and literacy, attendance and how the school meets it education mission. The pilot will be voluntary in the 2012-2013 school year to allow for feedback before PCSB considers making it a mandatory accountability measure, similar to its PMF for charter schools with students in grades 3-12.
The
15-year Charter Renewal Guidelines
set out the petition process for schools with a charter that is set to expire during the 2012-2013 school year. Pursuant to the School Reform Act §38-1802.12, schools whose charters are set to expire may submit a petition for charter renewal. A charter school cannot operate past the expiration date of their charter. The following public charter schools are eligible for 15-year charter renewal:
§
Community Academy Public Charter School
(all campuses)
§
Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School
§
Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy
(all campuses)
§
Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School
§
Friendship Public Charter Schools
(all campuses)
§
Integrated Design and Electronic Academy Public Charter School
§
Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools
(all campuses)
§
SEED School of Washington, DC
§
